60th Anniversary State Tour of The Pirates of Penzance

Tulsa Opera continues its interactive touring production with Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic masterpiece The Pirates of Penzance. Students within your school will participate as “the chorus” of pirates and daughters when the touring production visits your school.

Understanding the importance of “moral duty” is the theme of this witty and popular story which has delighted audiences of all ages. Before The Pirates of Penzance premiered in New York in 1879, composer Sir Arthur Sullivan wrote home to his mother: "I think it will be a great success, for it is exquisitely funny and the music is strikingly tuneful and catching." For historical information and a plot synopsis of The Pirates of Penzance, clickhere.

Your students will enjoy singing this classic music and performing with professional opera singers.  Curriculum materials and a teaching CD for your school’s “chorus members” are provided by the Tulsa Opera Education Department to assist in preparing your students for the in-school performance in your school.  Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity! This Pirates of Penzance production is an Opera for the Young ® Commission.
