Our 2009-2010 season will bring you three of opera's greatest masterpieces – by three of the art's greatest masters. You won't want to miss a single production!
Lucia di Lammermoor
October 10, 16 and 18, 2009
For countless opera lovers the world over, our season opener is simply synonymous with bel canto at its soaring best. Loosley based on Sir Walter Scott’s historical novel, The Bride of Lammermoor, Donizetti's Lucia gives us the tragic tale of love, family politics, madness and murder in 17th-century Scotland. Small wonder it’s on Opera America’s list of the 20 most-performed operas. In the title role, some of opera’s greatest sopranos have brought audiences to their feet in wild applause with spectacular, show-stopping displays of acrobatic, coloratura artistry. Expect nothing less from the stars of our own 2009 Lucia, returning from their triumphant Tulsa Opera debuts: Sarah Coburn – whose ravishing Lakmè dazzled audiences in 2008 – and the acclaimed tenor Scott Piper, Don José in our 2007 Carmen.
Rigoletto
February 27, March 5 & 7, 2010
Vendetta, Tremenda Vendetta! Revenge, Terrible Revenge! The first masterpiece of Verdi’s mid-to-late career, Rigoletto is among the top 10 most-performed operas. A tragedy of betrayal, abduction and vengeance, the opera was a dangerous venture for Verdi, who had to tame-down the story to get it performed. One of the most famous highlights: "La donna è mobile" – the womanizing Duke of Mantua’s wolfish canzone. Verdi tried to keep the show-stopping tune a secret, but it proved so catchy every gondolier in Venice was singing it within days of the opera’s premiere. Don’t miss the chilling irony of it s reprise at the opera’s tragic end.

Don Quichotte
A Tulsa Opera Premiere!
April 17, 23 & 25, 2010
Riez, allez riez du pauvre idéologue. Laugh, come laugh at this poor idealist! Everyone knows the wry, bittersweet story of the man of La Mancha, Don Quixote (Don Quichotte, as he is known in France): the beloved, befuddled knight-errant of impossible dreams. Jules Massenet's heroic comedy has been a showcase for renowned bass singers since its first performance in 1910, when Feodor Chaliapin created the title role. Our uniquely conceived, minimalist production will immerse you in Massenet's lovely, unforgettable music – with singing guaranteed to make you stand up and cheer.
